They were taken by Karim Nafani, a commercial airline pilot and photographer based in Dubai

He began the project to document his daily routine through a series of stunning photographs from 35,000 feet

He says, ‘I take you far away from skyscrapers this time to somewhere much higher: welcome to my daily office!’

Most people are lucky to see the sky through their office window, let alone be in it.But Karim Nafani sees more than just a few trees and an open space from his desk at work… he gets to see the whole world in shimmering panorama.

And now the Dubai-based commercial airline captain and photographer has taken pictures of his cockpit and posted them online.

He says he began the project in a bid to document his daily routine through a series of otherworldly images that look more like oil paintings than photographs and reveal exactly what it is like for pilots at 35,000 feet.

The only trouble is, when it gets a bit stuffy, you can’t open the window as any normal office worker would.

He said: ‘I take you far away from skyscrapers and high rise building roof tops this time to somewhere much higher: welcome to my daily office!’

He gives the images their ethereal look through a technique called ‘exposure bracketing’ which involves setting up a DSLR camera to take at least three shots, each at a different exposure, before combining them to create the final print.

The result looks more like an oil painting on canvas than a real-time digital photograph.

Apart from the beautiful views that confront Karim each day he takes to the skies, his pictures also remind viewers of the incredible array of levers, panels and buttons that cover almost every inch of an aircraft’s cockpit.

And, of course, he knows his way around them just as well as he does around those on his digital SLR camera.

Origami Street Art Installations by Mademoiselle Maurice

Mademoiselle Maurice is a 28 years old french artist.Actually based in Paris, she devoted herself entirely to colorful creations, whose thought process was initiated few years ago.

With different mediums such as origami, lace, photography, or painting and embroidery, she creates naive works at first sight, but deep and sensitive, in a constantly connection with the events encountered during her daily life.

Beyond her studio which is a very small space, she decided to devote herself to the world of the street, an open air museum, for achieve huge urban performances and installations, created with a lot of origami.
Some positive and colorful creations that transmit an emotion that everyone can appropriate in a subjective manner. Beyond the appearances, Mademoiselle Maurice seeks to deepen the link between individuals who form that human network which we belong and we frequent every day.
It also highlights the interactions between humans and their environment to highlight and resonate the Human / Nature link.

French artist Mademoiselle Maurice says,

Under the ARTAQ festival and for several months, I participate in a cultural mediation project to share with the public an artistic and urban project.

Angevins have been at the heart of the project, and become authors and participants of a gigantic urban artistic work.

Since January, with the cultural team of the city, including two artists mediators, Yan and Cecilia, we work in different places. It is generally present what street art, and my work as its origin, my approach, and the purpose of the action in the city.

The Angevin could be introduced to the art of folding in manufacture thousands, with the ultimate goal of seeing origami compose several urban spectra.

We intervened in nearly twenty places, such as leisure centers, schools (from kindergarten to high school), but also within the prison.

30,000 folds were collected through the motivation of Anjou, large and small.

With these folds, I first, a few days before the festival realized two installations. A portrait on the banks of Maine (pictures below) and a geometric composition on the fence of the cathedral (see in creation). (HUGE thanks to Benzo and Margaux were me invaluable help!)

Wednesday, May 29 Friday, May 31, hundreds of Angevins, children, schoolchildren, college students, housewife, retired and so on came lend to invest the steps of Montée St-Maurice hand! (See in Creations “). We partially covered the grand staircase to adorn an impressive color spectrum, the image of” a land of flowers in the middle of which you can change.

Beautiful Svartifoss -Black Fall waterfall in Skaftafell National Park in Iceland

Svartifoss (Black Fall) is a waterfall in Skaftafell National Park in Iceland, and is one of the most popular sights in the park. It is surrounded by dark lava columns, which give rise to its name. The hexagonal columns were formed inside a lava flow which cooled extremely slowly, giving rise to crystallization. Similar well-known lava formations are seen at the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, and on the island of Staffa in Scotland.
The base of this waterfall is noteworthy for its sharp rocks. New hexagonal column sections break off faster than the falling water wears down the edges.
These basalt columns have provided inspiration for Icelandic architects, most visibly in the Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavík, and also the National Theatre. (source : wikipedia)

Svartifoss (Black Falls) waterfall in Skaftafell National Park, Vatnajökull, Iceland. Large hexagonal rocks at the base of the waterfall are basalt sections that broke off from the cliff above.

A 20m high waterfall located in the Skaftafell National Park (part of the larger Vatnajökull National Park), memorable due to hanging hexagonal basalt columns underlying it. These basalt columns have provided inspiration for Icelandic architects, most visibly in the Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavík.

Located in central Stockholm is the headquarters of Bahnhof, a Swedish Internet Service Provider and host with one of the coolest data centers on the planet.Bahnhof is proud to be known as a Free Speech ISP.Wikileaks primary web server was operated in by Bahnhof between October 2010 and July 2011. Bahnhof hosted both the web server and the database, the later contained the cable release documents. These 2 boxes where the core of the Wikileaks hardware operation. The web server (hardware Dell power edge) is now on display at the Bahnhof Bar in our data centre Thule (in Stockholm City). The OS is Linux Ubuntu 10.04 and Apache web server

It took more than two years to blast out the 141,000 cubic feet of extra space that Bahnhof needed to fit its backup generators and server racks into the caves. The total space comprises roughly 1,200 square meters (12,900 square feet) and there were several design challenges that Albert France-Lanord Architects had to address.

This is the first edition of Data Center Pulse, On The Road. In this episode, Jon Karlung, CEO of Bahnhof, a local teclo gives Dean Nelson a tour of his Pionen, White Mountain datacenter in downtown Stockholm, Sweden. It is located in a bunker 30 meters under solid bedrock. It was a cold war bunker that was converted into this datacenter and is said to be able to withstand a Hydrogen bomb blast. It is very unique and reminds me of a James Bond movie!

Inside Facebook’s Data Center On the edge of the Arctic Circle in Luleå, Sweden

On the edge of the Arctic Circle, where the River Lule meets the Gulf of Bothnia, lies a very important building. Facebook’s newest data center – in Luleå, Sweden – is now handling live traffic from around the world.

As facebook systems come online for the first time,, this is likely to be one of the most efficient and sustainable data centers in the world. All the equipment inside is powered by locally generated hydro-electric energy. Not only is it 100% renewable, but the supply is also so reliable that they have been able to reduce the number of backup generators required at the site by more than 70 percent. In addition to harnessing the power of water,facebookare using the chilly Nordic air to cool the thousands of servers that store your photos, videos, comments, and Likes. Any excess heat that is produced is used to keep their office warm.

energy efficiency is also evident inside Luleå’s giant data halls. Nearly all the technology in the facility, from the servers to the power distribution systems, is based on Open Compute Project designs. This Facebook-founded initiative encourages the development of "vanity-free" hardware designs that are highly efficient and leave out unnecessary bits of metal and plastic. These designs are then shared with the broader community, so anyone can use or improve them.

All this adds-up to a pretty impressive power usage efficiency (PUE) number. In early tests, Facebook’s Luleå data centre is averaging a PUE in the region of 1.07. As with our other data centres, fb will soon be adding a real-time PUE monitor so everyone can see how fb are performing on a minute-by-minute basis.
